When we tell a truth, nothing much happens in our brain. But when you tell a lie, first, you have to know the truth, then you have to create the lie, then you have to calculate the consistency of the lie with all the lies you have been telling. It uses a lot of brain power and makes lie detection easy to Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging(FMRI) which is used to measure the flow of blood in our brain.
If we look at the brain from the point of evolution, our brain is like museum.The back part of the brain, is the most ancient part of the brain called the reptilian brain. Damage to this part of brain may result in loss of sense of balance. The middle part is the monkey brain, the brain of emotion and social hierarchy, for hunting in a pack, forming coalitions, understanding the intentions of other people. The front of the brain is the thinking brain i.e. the human brain.
In epileptic brain(brain with abnormal or excessive neural activity) sometimes the connections between the left and the right hemispheres of the brain are removed. When we remove these connections, gradually two personalities begin to emerge, two different minds in he same brain starts to emerge. In one case one part of the brain was religious and the other part was an atheist.
Consciousness of a cat : When a person having a cat comes home, the cat welcomes him by purring and brushing itself to his legs. But if you would have scanned the brain of a cat, the cat would be thinking, “This human is mine.”, “I own this human.”, I will put my hormones to this human’s leg so other cats cannot come on my territory.”, “I trained this human to feed me twice a day.”, “Good human.”. Cats are loners, they come to you, purr and disappear all by themselves. This is because they are descendants from the wild cats, which are solitary hunters. They are used to be alone.
Consciousness of a dog : When a person having a dog comes home, the dog jumps at him and slobbers all over you. The dog thinks that the person is also a dog, except he is the alpha dog. This is because dogs are pack animals, they hunt in packs. There is a very rigid pecking order; the alpha dog eats first. That’s why dogs are “Man’s best friends”.
Levels of Consciousness
Level 0 consciousness : Thermostat- One unit of consciousness; Flower- 10 units, registers water, sunlight, gravity, moisture, carbon.
Level 1 consciousness : It is the reptilian brain that evolved first. Organisms having consciousness of this level understand space and where it is located, they create models of their position in space.
Level 2 consciousness : This is the monkey brain, located at the center of our brain, is the brain of emotions, the brain of social hierarchy.
Level 3 consciousness : Only humans have ability to run simulations of model into the future and also the past. Animals have no conception of tomorrow.
A joke is funny because you here something and then you complete the ending. Human brain is a prediction machine, it constantly predicts the ending. So when we hear a joke, your brain completes the ending, and then when you hear the actual ending, it’s different and you laugh.
