Your brain does not age in isolation. It is affected by blood flow, inflammation, gut health, blood sugar, and nutrient status, and all of these systems work together. That is why assessing and supporting multiple processes can make a bigger difference than relying on a single supplement or a single approach.

An ideal ferritin range is 15 to 100 ng/mL.
Women often have lower iron stores than men because of blood loss from menstruation. Some people theorize that this may be one reason women tend to live longer than men. If ferritin is low, iron may help. If it is high, donating blood may help.

Blood flow is essential to life because blood delivers nutrients and removes toxins. New research suggests that brain cells may not age as fast as once thought, but the blood vessels that feed them do age. That makes vascular health a major priority for brain health.
A simple way to remember it is: whatever is good for your heart is good for your brain, and whatever is bad for your heart is also bad for your brain.
To strengthen vascular health, focus on three things:
- Care about your blood vessels.
- Avoid things that hurt vascular health, such as stress, caffeine, and nicotine. Also get treatment for coronary artery disease, heart arrhythmias, prediabetes and diabetes, prehypertension and hypertension, poor sleep, sleep apnea, and drug and alcohol abuse.

Your gut contains about 100 trillion microorganisms, and health depends on keeping the balance strongly in favor of the good bugs. When that balance is disrupted, physical and mental problems can follow.
Healthy gut bacteria may help deter harmful organisms and improve resilience to stress. But the balance can be harmed by:
- Antibiotics.
- Sugar intake.
